Adapond is a two year FP7 project that seeks a solution to relieve the low reliability of biofilters used in recirculation aquaculture systems. Our approach is to develop an automated technology for real-time monitoring of viability and metabolic activity of biofilter microbes. The idea is to store biofilter biomass so that these can be used in case of a biofilter failure to speed up the recovery of biofilter. The project was initiated by a consortium comprising 11 partners from six countries across the Europe. Total budget of the project is 1.4 million €.
