Materials Science

EII is active in advanced polymer research including studies on development and processing of bulk polymers and other polymer products like adhesives, coating materials, fibres, and polymer composites. EII’s knowledge portfolio comprises elements of both polymer physics and chemistry.

Our current activities include:

• Development of self-healing polymer composite material. This includes expertise about microencapsulation technologies supported by deep knowledge in chemistry of thermosetting polymer systems;
• Development of polymeric coating materials with damage indicating feature;
• Development of heat exchanging systems and phase sifting materials on heat exchanging;
• Development of air conditioning systems, air conditioning control systems and state-of-the-art air cleaning technologies with high voltage systems
• Mechanical characterization of polymer composites: tensile strength, fracture toughness, impact testing
• Cure kinetics of thermosetting polymers by using methods like differential scanning calorimetry and rheometry.
• Development of nanoporous insulation materials for inorganic composites;
• Development of silica based adhesives for inorganic fibre materials;
• Studies of thermo-mechanical properties of polymer materials using thermo-mechanical analysis and dynamic mechanical analysis methods
• Analysis of cure quality of thermosetting polymers via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy
